Postal Match 17: (closes July 31, 2009)

This match begins on July 2, 2009, and runs until midnight (EDT) on July 31, 2009. You must be a member of AAPS in order to submit scores for this match. Of course, nothing prevents you from setting up and shooting the match at home without being a member, but only AAPS members will have their scores posted and compete for medals and classification points. You can join AAPS by submitting the online application form. There are membership categories for U.S. residents as well as international competitors. Good luck and good shooting!

Setup: The match uses four AAPS paper targets (2 - "F" targets and 2 - "A" targets) and two AAPS metal poppers. The paper targets are set up in-line, 4' apart (measured center-to-center). The stop plate is positioned in the same plane as the paper targets and midway between them.  Targets T1 and T3 and the stop plate are between 32" and 34" off the ground (measured to the center) and targets T2 and T4 are 52" to 54" off the ground. The no-shoot targets cover half the A zone on targets T2 and T4. The paper targets and stop plate are 13' from the back edge of the table. Two poppers (CP1 and CP3) are placed 7' from the back edge of the table and 8' apart. CP1 and CP3 are between 24" to 26" off the ground (measured to the center). Poppers CP2 and CP4 are placed 10' from the back edge of the table and 5.5' apart. They are between 32" and 34" off the ground. The top of the table can be any size but it must have a height between 25" and 32".

Start: The competitor begins seated at the table with both hands on the back edge of the table and both feet on the floor. The pistol is unloaded (no BB in the chamber) and uncocked with the magazine on the table beside the gun. On the start signal, the competitor picks up the gun, loads the magazine, racks the slide and engages the targets in any order. Only two shots are allowed on each paper target. There is no limit to the number of shots that can be made on the poppers or the stop plate. The shooter must remain seated with both feet on the floor until shooting has ceased. Your score should be reported as a "Hit Factor" (see the scoring section below).

Scoring: Your score must be reported as a hit factor. Your hit factor is your total target score (minus any misses and penalties) divided by your time. Hit factors must be reported to two decimal places. Shots in the "A" zone count 5 points each, "C" zone hits are worth 3 points each, and hits in the "D" zone count one point each. Shots in the non-scoring border area count 0 points. Poppers score 5 points each. For any shot that misses a paper target or hits a no-shoot target you must subtract 10 points from you score. If more than two shots are taken at a paper target, then a penalty of 10 points must be subtracted from your score for each extra shot and the hit from the extra shot is not counted for scoring. Hits in the hard cover area (the black areas of the targets) do not count for scoring and are not assessed a penalty. A hit is scored based on the location where the BB entered the target and does not include tears radiating out from the point of impact. If the BB diameter of a hit touches the line between two or more scoring areas or between a non-scoring and scoring area, the higher value should be scored. The maximum target score for this match is 60 (8 "A" zone hits at five points each plus four poppers at 5 points each). To calculate your hit factor, divide your target score by your time (recorded to the nearest 0.01 s) and report the results to two decimal places. The higher your hit factor, the better your score. The complete set of AAPS rules for scoring can be found at http://www.aaps-federation.org/Documents/Scoring_Rules.pdf.
