Postal Match 16: (closes June 30, 2009)

This match begins on June 6, 2009, and runs until midnight (EDT) on June 30, 2009. You must be a member of AAPS in order to submit scores for this match. Of course, nothing prevents you from setting up and shooting the match at home without being a member, but only AAPS members will have their scores posted and compete for medals and classification points. You can join AAPS by submitting the online application form. There are membership categories for U.S. residents as well as international competitors. Good luck and good shooting!

Setup: Three AAPS "A" paper targets (T1, T2, and T3) and three classic poppers (CP1, CP2, and CP3) are used in this match. The centers of T1 and T3 are 42" from the ground and the center of T2 is 56" from the ground. T1 and T3 are 9' from the fault line and 7' apart. T2 is 14' from the fault line and half way between T1 and T3. Poppers CP1, CP2, and CP3 are mounted 34" off the ground (measured to the center). Popper CP2 is located 1' in front of T2. Poppers CP1 and CP3 are located 1' to the right and left of T1 and T3 respectively. The stop plate is positioned 1' to the right of T2 and is 36" off the ground (measured to the center). Handguns used in this postal match must comply with AAPS regulations (Rules 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3).

Start: The competitor begins behind the fault line, facing the targets, in the surrender position. The pistol is loaded, holstered, and in the ready condition (see Section 6.1 in the Rules Book). On the start signal, the competitor draws and fires two shots into each of the targets T1, T2, and T3 in any order. The shooter then performs a non-retention reload and then fires two more shots into T1, T2, and T3 in any order. Another non-retention reload is performed and the competitor then shoots poppers CP1, CP2, and CP3 in any order and then shoots the stop plate. Only two shots are allowed at each of the targets T1, T2, and T3 during each string. There is no limit to the number of shots that can be made on the poppers or the stop plate. A 10 point procedural penalty is assessed for every shot taken while the shooter's foot is touching the ground past the fault line. If a mandatory reload is not performed, there is a 10 point penalty assessed for every shot taken until the reload is performed.

Scoring: Your score must be reported as a hit factor. Your hit factor is your total target score (minus any misses and penalties) divided by your time. Hit factors must be reported to two decimal places. Shots in the "A" zone count 5 points each, "C" zone hits are worth 3 points each, and hits in the "D" zone count one point each. Shots in the non-scoring border area count 0 points. Poppers score 5 points each. For any shot that misses a paper target or hits a no-shoot target you must subtract 10 points from you score. If more than two shots are taken at a paper target, then a penalty of 10 points must be subtracted from your score for each extra shot and the hit from the extra shot is not counted for scoring. Hits in the hard cover area (the black areas of the targets) do not count for scoring and are not assessed a penalty. A hit is scored based on the location where the BB entered the target and does not include tears radiating out from the point of impact. If the BB diameter of a hit touches the line between two or more scoring areas or between a non-scoring and scoring area, the higher value should be scored. The maximum target score for this match is 75 (12 "A" zone hits at five points each plus three poppers at 5 points each). To calculate your hit factor, divide your target score by your time (recorded to the nearest 0.01 s) and report the results to two decimal places. The higher your hit factor, the better your score. The complete set of AAPS rules for scoring can be found at http://www.aaps-federation.org/Documents/Scoring_Rules.pdf.

Special Considerations:
Since some competitors may not yet have a stop plate and timer, the following timing exceptions can be used for this postal match.

1. If no stop plate and timer are available, then the competitor can be timed with a stop watch (+ 0.01 s) or a shot counter operated
by another person. In either case, the last shot must be on a popper or a popper template that serves as a substitute stop
plate positioned as described under setup. If a stopwatch is used, the clock should be stopped when the shooter hits the
substitute stop plate. If a shot timer is used, then 0.05 seconds must be added to the total time to compensate for the average
time it takes for a BB to travel 15 feet. The timing method must be described on the submission form.
