| This match begins on February 15, 2009,
and runs until midnight (EDT) on March 31, 2009. This is the last AAPS
postal match you will be able to enter without being a member of AAPS.
Of course, nothing prevents you from setting up and shooting the match
at home without being a member, but only AAPS members will have their
scores posted and compete for medals and classification points.
You can join AAPS by submitting the online application form. There
are membership categories for U.S. residents as well as international
competitors. Good luck and good shooting! Setup: Two AAPS "A" paper targets (T2 and T3) are mounted vertically. The center of T2 is between 50" and 55" from the ground and the center of T3 is between 32" and 36" from the ground. T2/T3 are 13' from the fault line and directly in front of shooting box A. Target T1 is an AAPS "E" paper target. The center of T1 is between 50" and 55" from the ground and it is 13' from the fault line. The centers of T1 and T2 are between 18" and 24" apart. Poppers CP1, CP2, and CP3 are mounted 12" to 18" off the ground (measured to the center). They are spaced 12" to 15" apart. Popper CP2 is located directly in front of shooting box B and 9' from it. Poppers CP1 and CP3 are 7' from the fault line in front of shooting box B. The stop plate is positioned 13' in front of the fault line and directly inline with shooting box B and CP2. The center of the stop plate is 50" to 55" off the ground and it is mounted directly in front of the center of a no-shoot target. The stop plate must be no more than 12" from the no-shoot target. Handguns and holsters used in this postal match must comply with AAPS regulations (Rules 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3). Start: The competitor begins in shooting box A facing the targets in the surrender position. The pistol is holstered in the loaded and ready condition (Rule 6.1). On the start signal, the competitor draws and fires two shots only into each of the targets T1, T2, and T3, engaging the targets in any order. The shooter then moves to shooting box B while performing a non-retention reload (drop the magazine on the floor or into a box). Once in shooting box B, using the weak hand only, the shooter fires at CP1, CP2, and CP3, in any order, and then shoots the stop plate. There is no limit to the number of shots that can be made on the poppers or the stop plate. A 10 point procedural penalty is assessed for every shot taken while part of the shooter's body is touching the ground outside a shooting box. If the mandatory reload is not performed, there is a 10 point penalty assessed for every shot taken until the reload is performed. Scoring: Your score must be reported as a hit factor. Your hit factor is your total target score (minus any misses and penalties) divided by your time. Hit factors must be reported to two decimal places. Shots in the "A" zone count 5 points each, "C" zone hits are worth 3 points each, and hits in the "D" zone count one point each. Shots in the non-scoring border area count 0 points. Poppers score 5 points each. For any shot that misses a paper target or hits a no-shoot target you must subtract 10 points from you score. If more than two shots are taken at a paper target, then a penalty of 10 points must be subtracted from your score for each extra shot and the hit from the extra shot is not counted for scoring. Hits in the hard cover area (the black areas of the targets) do not count for scoring and are not assessed a penalty. A hit is scored based on the location where the BB entered the target and does not include tears radiating out from the point of impact. If the BB diameter of a hit touches the line between two or more scoring areas or between a non-scoring and scoring area, the higher value should be scored. The maximum target score for this match is 45 (6 "A" zone hits at five points each plus three poppers at 5 points each). To calculate your hit factor, divide your target score by your time (recorded to the nearest 0.01 s) and report the results to two decimal places. The higher your hit factor, the better your score.
