Postal Match 9: (closes September 30, 2008)

This month's Postal Match involves shooting at both paper targets and metal poppers and includes a non-retention reload prior to shooting the stop plate. The "Special Considerations" section (below) describes variations that are allowed for this postal match. This postal match requires the use of an approved holster and a stop plate/timer for timing.

Setup: This match uses one AAPS "B2" paper target (T1), one "F" target (T2), one "B1" target (T3), and three AAPS metal poppers (CP1, CP2, and CP3). Target T1 is placed 10' in front of the shooting box, T2 is placed 14' in front of the shooting box, and T3 is 8' in front. The stop plate is 10' in front of the shooting box. Poppers CP1, CP2, and  CP3 are placed 1' in front of T1, T2, and T3 respectively and are 12" to 20" off the ground (measured to the center of each popper). The center of T1 is between 38" and 42" off the ground, T2 is between 52" and 56", and T3 is between 28" and 32" off the ground. The stop plate is 32" to 36" high. The right half of T2 is covered with a no-shoot target. The shooting box measures 30" x 30". A mag drop box is located in front of the shooting box.

Start: The competitor begins standing in the shooting box facing the targets in the surrender position. The pistol is holstered and in the loaded and ready condition. On the start signal, the competitor draws and engages the targets in any order. After engaging all of the targets, the shooter performs a non-retention reload and then shoots the stop plate. Only two shots are allowed on each paper target. There is no limit to the number of shots that can be made on the poppers or the stop plate. Your score should be reported as a "Hit Factor" (see the scoring section below).

Scoring: For this postal match, you must report your score as a hit factor. Your hit factor is your total target score (minus any misses and penalties) divided by your time. Hit factors must be reported to two decimal places. Shots in the "A" zone count 5 points each, "C" zone hits are worth 3 points each, and hits in the "D" zone count one point each. Shots in the non-scoring border area count 0 points. For any shot that misses the target or hits the no-shoot target you must subtract 10 points from you score. If more than two shots are taken at a paper target during each string, then a penalty of 10 points must be subtracted from your score for each extra shot and the hit from the extra shot is not counted for scoring. Hits in the hard cover area (the black areas of the targets) do not count for scoring and are not assessed a penalty. A hit is scored based on the location where the BB entered the target and does not include tears radiating out from the point of impact. If the BB diameter of a hit touches the line between two or more scoring areas or between a non-scoring and scoring area, the higher value should be scored. The maximum target score for this match is 45 (6 "A" zone hits at five points each and three poppers knocked down at five points each). To calculate your hit factor, divide your target score by your time (recorded to the nearest 0.01 s) and report the results to two decimal places. The higher your hit factor, the better your score. The complete set of AAPS rules for scoring can be found at http://www.aaps-federation.org/Documents/Scoring_Rules.pdf.

Special Considerations:
Since many AAPS competitors will not yet have all the equipment normally needed to compete in this match, the special considerations outlined below will apply for this postal match.

1. Any AAPS regulation airsoft GBB pistol and holster can be used (Open or Standard). Describe your pistol on the
    submission form.
2. If metal poppers are not available, then you may use popper templates as your targets. A shot inside the scoring area
of a template is considered a hit.
3. Scores for this postal match will be kept on file and used to qualify competitors when AAPS membership opens.
