Postal Match 4: (closes April 30, 2008)

This month's Postal Match is a variation of the three-target setup used in previous matches with the addition of a no-shoot target and the use of targets with hard cover areas. We are retaining the "Special Considerations" used in previous matches.

Setup: The match uses three AAPS targets ("F", "A", and "B1") set up in-line, 18 to 24 inches apart (measured center-to-center), with the middle target centered 13 feet in front of the competitor. The centers of the left and right targets are between 54" and 58" off the ground and the center of the middle target is between 34" and 38" off the ground. A stop plate is positioned two feet in front of the right-most target with its center approximately three feet off the ground. The middle ("A") target has a no-shoot target on top of it covering the left half of the "A" target.

Start: The competitor begins facing the targets. The pistol is in the loaded and ready condition and hands are at sides. On the start signal, the competitor draws and fires two shots into each target, engaging targets in any order. The competitor then performs a non-retention reload (drop the magazine on the floor or into a box) and fires two more shots into each target and then shoots the stop plate (13 shots altogether). There is no limit to the number of shots that can be made on the stop plate. Your score should be reported as a "Hit Factor" (see the scoring section below).

Scoring: For this postal match, you must report your score as a hit factor. Your hit factor is your total target score (minus any misses and penalties) divided by your time. Hit factors must be reported to two decimal places. Shots in the "A" zone count 5 points each, "C" zone hits are worth 3 points each, and hits in the "D" zone count one point each. For any shot that misses the target (hits outside the "D" zone) or hits the no-shoot target, you must subtract 10 points from you score. If more than two shots are taken at a target during each string, then a penalty of 10 points must be subtracted from your score for each extra shot and the hit from the extra shot is not counted for scoring. Hits in the hard cover area (the black areas of the targets) do not count for scoring and are not assessed a penalty. A hit is scored based on the location where the BB entered the target and does not include tears radiating out from the point of impact. If the BB diameter of a hit touches the line between two or more scoring areas or between a non-scoring and scoring area, the higher value should be scored. The maximum target score is 60 (12 "A" zone hits at five points each). To calculate your hit factor, divide your target score by your time (recorded to the nearest 0.01 s) and report the results to two decimal places. The higher your hit factor, the better your score. The complete set of AAPS rules for scoring can be found at http://www.aaps-federation.org/Documents/Scoring_Rules.pdf.

Special Considerations:
Since many AAPS competitors will not yet have all the equipment normally needed to compete in this match (holster, stop plate, etc.), the special considerations outlined below will apply for this postal match.

1. Any AAPS regulation airsoft GBB pistol can be used (Open or Standard). Describe your pistol on the
    submission form.
2. If a regulation holster is not available, then the competitor can start in the "low ready" position (see below). The
shooter's trigger finger must be outside the trigger guard
. The start position must be described on the
    submission form.
3. If no stop plate is available, then the competitor can be timed with a stop watch (+ 0.01 s) or a shot counter operated
by another person. In either case, the last shot must be on a popper or a popper template positioned as
described under setup. If a stopwatch is used, the clock should be stopped when the shooter hits the stop plate. If a
shot timer is used, then 0.05 seconds must be added to the total time to compensate for the average time it takes for
a BB to travel 15 feet. The timing method must be described on the submission form.
4. Scores for this postal match will be kept on file and used to qualify competitors when AAPS membership opens.
